Post Surgical Rehab
Orthopedic surgical procedures can bring with them a variety of common, post-surgical problems, including pain, swelling, tightness, weakness, limited motion, scarring, and decreased ability to perform normal activity.
At First Step Physical Therapy, we develop an individualized post-surgical treatment plan aimed at eliminating these problems so that you can quickly return to your pre-injury level of activity. Achieved through safe and efficient progression, your rehabilitation is designed to prevent re-injury and maintain the stability of the surgical repair.
Your individualized treatment plan is carefully developed after an in-depth evaluation and communication with your surgeon to ensure that special precautions and limitations are addressed. Physical therapy treatment after surgery typically includes hands-on techniques to decrease pain, swelling, tightness, and loss of motion, as well as supervised exercises to regain strength and proper muscle function. In later stages of recovery, specific treatments may be employed to assist in your return to occupational and recreational activities.
Some common postsurgical conditions we treat include:
- Total Joint replacements
- Spinal surgeries (laminectomy, fusion, discectomy)
- Arthroscopic procedures
- ACL repairs
- Rotator cuff repairs
- Fracture repairs
